Need help w/Powerhead question

Hi guys! I recently set up my 29 gal nano reef tank. Currently I only have 45 lbs sand, ~30 lbs fiji live rock (absolutely astonishing), 1 ocellaris, 6 blue leg hermits, a colony of amphipods, a few hitchhiking bristleworms which I rarely see, and about 10 small snails of different kinds. Not much going on there. I incorrectly purchased 2 powerheads rated at 800 gph. Obviously this is way too much flow for my 29 gal. I was advised to go with two 300 gph unit instead. Is this correct? I need two of them? And so I have been looking at the marieland maxijet 1200. Where I am confused is at the flow chart. It says it is rated at 295gph flow rate and 1300 gph circulation rate. Which one of these do I go by? And since I was told I want 300 gph, if I bought two of them, wouldn't that put me at 600gph? And have any of you guys tried the maxijets? I am getting mixed reviews on them. A lot of people are saying that they humm too loud. If this is true, I don't want these. I want something to be fairly quiet. I am willing to spend about $60 on each if necessary. Someone recommended one for me but when I clicked on the link, the darn thing cost over $500 for the single powerhead. Please don't recommend something like that as it is far too expensive for what I am after. Next question is, how long can I keep my clown with no flow in the tank? I can go out and buy the powerheads today if need be, that is not an issue. I just like ordering my gear from BRS for their reward points and would like to order them instead. If not, then it's not that big of a deal either. If you guys can tell me what I need by today, then I will go out today and buy them. What other brands, within that price range, would you guys recommend? Thanks in advance.

ur reading too much about turnover… what don't you like about the 800 gph you currently have? ( some manufactures tend to stretch the truth on their numbers a bit) and thats really not insane flow by any means… the cheap ones to look up are called wp 25's just one would probably be great in your tank. they are alot cheaper than the 500 dollar ones, but work about the same in chicago some of the fish shops stock them, if not you just have to mail order them … maxi jets are good for small tanks, but the output tube is small, the propeller style pumps are wider so even higher gph numbers are fine they as concentrated.

If its a standard 29g biocube have you looked at doing the Tunze mod on the return? That is what I would recommend if you can do that. Otherwise Tunze or a Hydor would be other good options. DO NOT buy the Marineland Pro powerheads they are extremely loud and do not have a magnet attachment.

It is not a biocube. It's just a standard 29 gallon aquarium. The 800 GPH that I have stir up the sand a lot and it seems that my clown goes under a lot of stress swimming against the current when I connect it. You guys think that the one I have already will work good? I went out and bought a new one today rated at 607 GPH. It's the Sicce Voyager. This really sucks though. I drove out to Houston which is about 1.5 hours away. I came home and took it out the box. I found an old return receipt in it. I instantly got a bad feeling about it. I plug it in and put it to use and sure enough, it doesn't work. Now I have to send it back to the store because I don't want to drive the 100 miles to go back there. If you guys think that my 800 GPH will work fine that I can stick with that but it just seems like a bit overkill in my opinion. Share you thoughts. THanks.

I have seen my clowns playing in the power head stream. It just may be the clowns are a little skittish because of the new surroundings. I was running a 30G and I believe I was running an 800gph power head also. My pair of clown would skim into the stream and try to swim against it then dart off into the rocks. I also have seen this at a local coral farm. I think the clowns like a heavy flow to play in.
