My husband picked up this favite and I don't know if all the dead stuff on the edges is a disease or caused from the tank it was previously in. It also has some bleaching towards the center and what looks like a tube worm hole. I have had it for roughly a week and have notnseen any critter on it except one of my hermit crabs eating the dead off the edge. Any help is appreciated. 20140916_141104.jpg

Keep a sharp eye on it. If either the brown edge, or the white area continue to increase in size, you will probably need to frag it to save it. The first step is start it low in your tank and observe. The white area might be bleaching but it also might be STN (slow tissue necrosis).

It looks fine to me. The edges where there's no tissue might be due to it getting buried in the sand. All in all though, these corals are actually pretty durable IME. As long as your parameters are within reason and the lighting is sufficient, is should heal up in no time. GL.

Ok. Thanks. I'm definitely keeping an eye on it. From home im able to test my ph (8.0), ammonia, nitrate and nitrate (which all read zero). I take a water sample to get tested every two week and I'm told all numbers are perfect.

It often takes quite a few weeks for some corals to respond to their new surroundings and it's almost like they 'wake up' one day and start to thrive so don't worry if you don't notice any improvement immediately.

i have one just like this and it started out the same way. Slow tissue necrosis has set in and its almost gone.

Definitely keep an eye on it. Favia/Favites/brain corals are supposed to be easy but ive never had luck with them.

I can keep SPS and more difficult LPS with no issues which is so weird

I haven't noticed it sending out tentacles or anything that lets me know to feed it. Does it do that?

Ok, after watching it more, there are two fan worms in the holes I thought were empty plus one on the edge? Should I be worried?
