Hi All,

I am not sure if this belongs here or not. I have only been keeping a reef tank for a little while. Three months to be exact. Well attached is a photo of a green bubble. I have them now appearing all over my LR. Anyone know what this is? Also is it a good thing?? Thanks in advance.

I would say valonia ( bubble algae) If you can, pick them off your rock stat!! But don't break em they will reproduce faster than a pup with 2 ------ well you know what I mean. If you find that you can't pick them off without breaking them try an emerald crab maybe 10-12 bux at LFS. They may or may not eat the bubble algae, but they are your best "natural" defense to them.

An out of tank option is to remove rock (of possible) and scrub with a toothbrush. Swish it in a series of buckets with tank water(at least two) before returning to the display. As fuzz mentions, emerald crabs are the proposed method of eradication. I have seen my purple tang munch on valonia from time to time, too, but that is (like most other things in this hobby) more likely an individual taste.
