I have had one of these come in on a coral . It is a single thread which can stretch out to a few inches long and seems to have small hairs on it. It will float in the current and then pull itself in. Its base is rather small maybe an 1/8". I tried to manage them but have quickly risen in numbers. There are probably about 30 of them now that I can count in a couple of months time.

Does anyone know what it is? Can I or should I do something about it?

Thanks for your answers

Probably a Digitate hydroid - I have a few in my tank. They don't really do any harm in my tank. I think you can grab them with tweezers and pull them out.

Thanks. Now that I have a name I was able to google it. Seems there are a lot of opinions about them being safe or not but quite a few people say they will dwindle over time. I was curious if anyone has had luck with a pink streaked wrasse eating things like this.
