I need to figure out the measurements to build a canopy for a 48x24 tank, the light Im using is the same exact size as the outside dimensions of the tank. They both are 48-1/2"

I had a canopy but the light wouldn't fit since it was the same size as the inside of the canopy.

The light is a t-5/mh combo so I want to hang it and the fan is on the side but Im going to disconnect that fan and install 2 square 4" fans in the back.

My question is if I make the frame of the canopy to sit on the frame of the tank, should I just ad a piece of say 1x12 on the out side and then run a piece of say 1x6 across the top to hang the light?

I want to use 2x2 for the frame.

I'm so confused because I'm under the gun to get his done.

I basically just need measurements to make the frame so the light will fit inside with out touching the inside.

It has me confused because both the tank and the light are 48 1/2" so there is no "wiggle room"

Build the canopy so that it fits around the outside of the tank. Run you a 1x2 on the inside of the canopy to rest on the top of the tank. That way you can make it wide enough to fit the light inside.
