Need help with QT for ick.

Salty Cracker

My fish are infected with ick. I have a 30 gallon QT tank ready with pvc, power head, and plan to use coppersafe. What salinity should I start the tank out at? Should it be the same as my reef tank and slowly lower the salinity?

You can only do 1 treatment. Have the "Hospital Tank" at the salinity of your display if your going to dose copper. Same if you were going to do a TTM. If doing Hypo, you can start with the salinity of your DT and slowly lower it to 0.09. I would use Cupramine instead of Coppersafe.

This. TTM is the best, and quickest.

I spotted one fish with ick. Should I QT all of my fish or just that one?

If a fish has ich, the tank it is in now has ich. All fish in that tank would need to be treated with TTM or copper or CP. The tank having ich needs to be without fish for 72 days.

Thanks for the replies. I was reading that it also helps to take out the live rock and place it in buckts with water for the same duration?

The rocks can stay in your display tank. The display must remain fallow or fishless for 72 days. Without a fish host the the ich will die out.
