Do not know what this is. Got it cheap from a local fish store.

Looks like a Flower Pot (Goniopora lobata) It does not look very healthy. I would do some research on them. They don't have a very long tank life.
 
that was 5 min. after putting him in the tank. It has been 4hrs now and he is huge and looks vibrant and good.
 
Yes, that is a flowerpot or gonipora. They fairly common in the trade. It is extremely difficult to keep. It may look great for a while, but it gradually start to recede...sorry.

well it depends on the tank... but typically you are correct...IIRC they need to feed on zooplankton which are wiped out by protein skimmers

Well he only cost me $10. So if he lives for a little while I will get my moneys worth I guess.

They are beautiful corals. I really wanted on for along time. I did my research and everyone told me I would be disappointed. 10 buck well worth the money. Good luck with it.
