Ok, I have read the FAQ'S on ro/di but want to here from users of actual units and what you might recommend for a 180gal. tank.

www.airwaterice.com
Typhoon III (75 GPD)

Make sure you mention Reef Central, they'll hook you up with a free TDS meter or an upgrade (~$15) for free. I have a 180G and that is what I bought for mine. ~Matt

There are 4 vendors I would recommend:
www.airwaterice.com (75 GPD Typhoon III)
www.purelyh2o.com (Optima w/ 75 GPD RO membrane)
www.buckeyefieldsupply.com (75 GPD Premium series)
www.thefilterguys.biz (Ocena Reef series)

All use genuine Dow Filmtec RO membranes. All offer systems with standard sized 10" canister type DI filters with refillable cartridges that are the most efficient available, hold up to 24 oz of resin and will save you lots of money over the life of the system. All have great customer service and technical support and build a quality system designed specifically for Reef use and not just a drinking water filter claiming to be something it isn't.
Get one with a pressure gauge and TDS meter to help you determine when DI needs changing.

Does anyone have the optima unit with the two stage built in TDS meter? I am seriously considering it or the typhoon III.

Wow sounds pretty popular. Ill read up on it . supposed to buy one tomorrow. Probably online. Hey also one other thing you can tell your wife so you can buy more stuff is you added all your live rock and its starting to kill the tank so you need a new ro/di unit. hahhaha.. thank you for your help. Anymore ideas/ suggestions?

Order it with a drinking water kit and hook it to the kitchen sink and the ice maker and she will love you for it! Makes it easier to justify.

I have no issue with breaking up parties!

I am a HUGE proponent of purelyh2o.com. Before going with anyone else I would urge you to at least give Bryan at purelyh2o a call. Amazing service, amazing product, amazing price. As a supporter of RC, Bryan also offers a discount of 10% if you enter the coupon code on your purchase. You can get that from his forum, which is listed under the vendors on RC.

I just bought the Typhoon III. waiting for it to come in the mail. Tell them your an RC member and get a free float valve. I have done tons of research on this subject and feel that everybody seems to think the Typhoon III is one of the best made. Hopefully in a few days I can put my own input in on the quality of the unit.

Does anybody else sell them besides www.airwaterice.com?

You can always get a high dollar one from some website, but RO/DI units are all pretty much the same. What is important is the GPD (gallons per day) it puts out and the quality of the RO membrane. Everything else is a wash. IMO go cheap. Upgrade on the filters and membrane when they need to be replaced. Get a storage tank with your unit. It makes top offs quicker. Again IMO AquaSafeCanada offers good quality, cheap units.

Unfortunately "everything else is a wash" isn't true, even if it is an opinion. The Applied membranes that AquaSafe uses need 65psi to produce their rated output. While Dow FilmTec membranes do that at 50psi (normal household pressures). The Applied membranes do use the Dow material, but the membrane itself is inferior to the Dow membrane. I also see that the Aqua units use horizontal DI chambers. These are also less efficient than the vertical DI canisters with cartridges; the effect of channeling on the horizontal DI's can be improved by mounting them vertically and packing tightly with resin, but it is still not as effective as the full size vertical DI w/cartridge. Kaiser Tang, wasn't it you who had the thread where you switched from vertical DI to horizontal and then had problems with your output TDS going up? I don't think you ever posted back about if you got it fixed or not. Let us know. Another thing that is not a wash is customer service. I've read a couple peoples exp. with AquaSafe and it sounded like they had positive exp. On the other hand there are countless others who have positive exp with the vendors that AZ listed.
