Hey guys,
WHen i was out of town my surge protector got unplugged and my lights were out for about 5 days....no idea why my tank sitter did not notice this...

Now all my SPS are very pale and little PE....is there anything i can do??

Thanks in advance,
Doug

I would ease back into the photoperiod (half duration x 2 days, 3/4 duration x 2 days then back on schedule) and find a new tank sitter and have an electrician install a read GFI outlet.

Someones not getting a thankyou card. I just had a piece of jedi mind trick somehow end up in the bottom of a cooler holding some rock I removed from the tank. It had a heater, air stone, no lights and that's it for a week before I stumbled acrossed it. Looked dead. Slowly acclimated back to the system and lights and now 3 weeks later it looks great again. So there's hope :)

Hi, I have had a reef tank on a GFI circuit, well the chiller would occasionally trip it off when the metal halides were on and sometimes when not on. Basically i feel the GFI's cannot handle a 4 or 6 amps of stuff turning on. I took the GFI out and never had a problem, of course you can check market place for a higher quality GFI than what the builder threw in to meet code requirements, those are junk and good for a hairdryer falling into water.

Not sure how the GFI was involved. I read that the surge protector got unplugged.

Doesn't matter if your GFI works or not if it's unplugged right?

Anyway I'd say your tank will be just fine if you acclimate everything back to the light carefully and don't for some reason leave your lights on for 15 hours a day to make up for lost time.

Just a long dark tropical storm in the tropics.

If your tank sitter happens to check your tank when the lights are normally off, then he or she would never know. Maybe have a small lamp or radio plugged into that same surge protector with instructions for your tank sitter to make sure is always on day or night, in the future.
