I just received my 200 watt visi-therm stealth heater, my favorite brand, in the mail. The 30 gallon is filled with water... all it needs now is the pool filter sand I've got at the house for a small sand bed (approximately 20 - 30 lbs...) and the 10 lb piece of base rock. I've got a ton of live rock in my 29 gallon so I'm going to thin it out to about 35-40 lbs or so and put the rest in the 30 gallon.
I'm aiming for a light, easy to care for reef that consists mainly of easy to care for corals like zoanthids, xenia, mushrooms and leathers. Right now I've got one 48" 110 watt coralife fixture over the tank. It's got a 55 watt 50/50 bulb in it. The other bulb has gone bad and needs to be replaced.
I'm wanting this to be goby dominated.... Maybe a fish or two, but small ones.
Any ideas or recommendations?
As for equipment... I've got a Penguin 330 and a Penguin 200... I'm hoping to get rid of those sometime. It currently doesn't have a sump or refugium, but I do have two maxi-jet 1200's in my 29 gallon. I could possibly pull one of those out... especially with removing a lot of the live rock...
You know... one thing I didn't count on... when I built the stand I just built the frame... I didn't put plywood on the top. I knew glass tanks only needed to be supported on the side.
With the live rock... I have a feeling I'm going to run into problems with the bottom glass breaking... That might be my project for tonight. Break the stand back down and put a top on it.. Or do you guys think there will be a problem? Not sure here.
Let me know.
Other than that... any ideas on what could make this tank more reef ready? I am on a budget at the moment, so be easy.
