Need some explaining... Reefkeeper Lite

Ok so heres the deal. I want to get a 50G CADlights tank, I have everything picked out, and its looking like a good list. However, I thought it would be a good idea to get a Reefkeeper to keep track of PH, Temp, and Salinity.

Now this is where I am totally confused. I want to get the cheapest possible RK Lite setup that I can, except I can't figure out what exaclty I need to get to do all of this. To go with that, can I set it up to shut off my heaters if the tank gets to warm or make an alert noise if something drops below something that I set (say salinity drops below 1.021 or something).

I think there is a way to get it to email you too, but I assume that costs a lot, and requires a Wired connection which would be impossible since I would have to run it 200ft downstairs.

Any guidance would be awesome with this.

Thanks!

Yes, you can set it up to turn the heater on/off within .1 degree temp.
I have mine to kick on if it gets .1 below 79 degrees.
You can also have them so they alarm you, but the RKL (I have two total, one for each tank).

The RKL comes with a programmer, a 4 plug bar (each plug can be programmed individually) along with a Temp probe.

I just got the $169 RKL deal on Wed., but it comes with the SL1 which does not measure salinity. You need the SL2 for that. The SL1 will do temp and ph though.

If you would like email and web monitoring you need to add on the NET module which is around 120. You can use a wireless gaming adapter to set it up through wifi. The thing that you have to remember is that with the RKL you can only have a total of any 4 modules. So if you have 2 power strips, a SL1 and the NET then you cant add any more modules.

True, you can only have 4 modules but you can use multiple outlet adapters on each socket of the power strips. The issue there is you have to have them timed the same and you can't exceed the Amps per socket. The real plus is you can always upgrade to the Elite and they give you a credit for your RKL. I do plan on getting the Net module because who doesn't need to obsess about their tank at work?

im running a RKL Plus and so far i love it... although im already maxed out on my modules... 3 PC4 power strips and the SL1 with temp & PH probes. I'm itching to upgrade to the RKE so i can add on the NET module.. but as of now i dont NEED it..so i'm trying to refrain myself on spending the extra money.
