Well, long story short (and from my other thread)...established 5 year tank, thought go ahead and impulse buy two small percs...few weeks later one died and the other is now in QT....I went against everything I had practiced years ago, but now I'm paying for it and so are my old fish.
Sure enough, tonight my yellow tang f many years has a few spots and some on one fin!
I am not sure if the new fish introduced it or not...for motnhs my cardinal has had a frayed tail with several spots...not getting worse, not getting better. Imagine from being picked on so much...I let things be.
My stock:
large yellow tang
2 black damsels, good size variants of the common blue/yellow tail
large green chromis
banded dartfish/doby thing
large pajama cardinal
MY QT is only 20g.
The way I see it I have three QT/hospital options here...
Option 1.
keep the 20g running, put the docile dartfish and cardinal in with the young percula. Start another QT made from a small rubbermaid container with the large tang and damsels.
Option 2.
Buy a LARGE rubbermaid and QT everything in it.
Option 3.
Put all the fish in the 20g until I can properly cycle a larger rubbermaid qt or second qt.
Option 4 is something I really don't want to do, but if best I will....
As I have to take out all the LR (lots of it) and it will be time consuming...do what it takes, get the tang and cardinal out, leave the others in DT until I can cycle another QT properly.
Option 5, again likely not worth the effort, unless you think it could be a helper...catch the tang in question, place in QT with clown for a few days and do several PAraguard dips.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to do all of this until the weekend. Prepping lots of water either way for many WC with overstocked 20g QT or setting up larger QT, same thing, work commitments, and a good half day to do it how it needs to be done.
I'm looking for the best option here for the animals and their long-term needs.
I was planning on doing a nice healthy QT within the next few months when we upgrade from the 75 to a 120, but that's not happening soon enough!
New thought here...I could give the two damsels and large chromis away to LFS employee and then just have the cardinal, dartfish, tang, and clown in 20g QT? This feasible?
