do you guys think a mag 9 pump will bring water up about 12 feet to a display on the upper floor? helping my buddy to install a sump in basment right below the display about 12 feet from floor where sump would be to top of display tank. is a mag 9 strong enough? or should we go higher?

Mags don't do well in high head/pressure applications. A mag 9 pump is only rated to flow 180 gal @ 12ft.

A mag 18 is rated 825 gal @ 12ft head. I have 1 for sale in original box;) Never touched water-Brand new if interested PM me.

thats too much flow. the mags rate the flow at the max feet hieght. flow rate is lowered but not stopped with additional hieght. i dont want a high flow on this return only enough to feed over flow and keep sump under a low flow for propper macro and pod development. i think a mag 12 tops . the flow rate doesnt have to be high . the sump is an algea scrubber and needs a low trickle flow . the pump just has to be able to over come the over head pressure ...not keep high flow. any thoughts

flow is not important as long as its more than atrickle! lol/ thanks for your input i think we will try a mag 10 and hope it is strong. the issue is i dont mind it being strong but will ease it back anyways so i just want to use most of its power without a valve if possible. thanks for your thoughts lakeside!

yes we want to place it submerged. will this have any bearing on the flow rate we choose? thanks

I believe the flow rates for Mag's are based in submerged applications. Running a Mag external greatly reduces flow rate, IME.

thats what i thought fishtanker...thanks that clears up what whale was checking with.thanks guys very informative!lol....
