Should be fine with cutting it all off. You could try using bone cutters on the rock it is on and cut out a small base, too. Instant mount and a little less stress. Denser rock is harder to cut, obviously. Fiji usually cuts like butta.
Just cut it off like said above, a razor works great. It will easily attach to another substrate (rock) in a couple days if you use a needle/toothpick/glue/string to hold it to the rock. The important part is that the freshly cut area is directly in contact with the new substrate.
