Hi
Do you think the top 1/4 inch of your sandbed should be vaccumed with water changes or should the sandbed be left alone and undisterbed?Ive read both ways and have tried both with mixed results.Opinions anybody?
Thanks,Becky

Yup.

If it's for the 85g you might consider a twinspot goby. They stay small, usually don't leave the sand, and cover a good amount of ground. Kinda fun creatures.

The best would be sand sifting star fish. I have 1 in mine. They are better the most gobies. you could try the twin spot gobies since they are small, but you have to make sure they eat. 80% of all deaths are because they didnt get enough to eat. Or what you could do when you doing water changes is hold the holes between your thumb and base of your index finger and use the tip of your index finger to turn up the sand, but not to ruff or you will suck up some of the sand.

Most sand sifting stars will die of starvation. I have been able to keep a twinspot alive for many years in a 44g tank. I think one would do fie in an 85g tank given my experience.
