i'm taking down my 156 sps tank and putting up a

100g 30x30x24 cube.

i need to see what you think of this and if it will work.

it is not scale. i just want to know if the water will flow in this manner or not.

TIA

I'm not that crazy about it. In a 100g I would definitly go for two overflows, either one on each end, or one large overflow in the middle.
In either case I'd have duel inputs coming back in.

lbcbj, the pic is a top down shot. with a large external over flow in the back(i'm hoping that will flow enough). i just want to know if the flow from the seios/tunze's will work like this or not.

thanks for the help...

I doubt it would work as ideally as you would want. Most of the flow is going to hit the front glass and be deflected towards the back of the tank. You're just not going to good circulation.

What's the purpose of the rear chamber? Why not just remove that and allow the entire water surface to flow backward into the overflow, rather than into the narrow channel on the right? Then you could place Tunze/Seios on both sides of the tank and get much better flow.

Also, I would strongly advise against an external overflow (are you talking like a CPR?). I would drill it and have the overflow internal

What about something like this?

Here you would have one internal overflow in the middle and 4 return pumps, running 2 to each corner. You could then place a tunze/seio on each side of the tank and have them run intermittently, blowing straight across, creating some random turbulence.

Just an idea...

i don't like the look of power heads in the tank. that is why i'm building/adding the back chamber to hide them. the idea is to get the water to flow around in a circle. once you get the water turning it takes less energy to keep it going. the back chamber is used to feed the power heads with water. i know there will be some deflection of water but when your moving 5200g/h of water in a 30x30" area. your gonna get movement.

but i don't have a back ground in flow dynamics so i'm just guessing at this.

The external over flow design has been used by many large tank owners for years. i don't see any issues with it.

the external over flow gives you more room and flexability in the tank for aqua-scaping
