I just had a "stalk" of neomeris pop up off one of my rocks--I found a picture and know that's what it is, but is it good/bad--it's been growing very slowly and only has one stalk--any help would be appreciated and the search engine is down--
Neomeris is cool, but it does use calcium and alkanity so you'll need to monitor and maintain these for its health. I have read some posts that report neomeris as being a bit invasive, guess it depends on the individual. I wish I had more.
Totally depends on your position regarding algae in general. It can become invasive. This was a good example, Neomeris question of that potential problem.
To generalize, it appears that tanks that do not have any competing photosynthetic life end up with these very invasive and hard to eradicate blooms of macroalgae. Whether it is Neomeris and Halimeda which aren't too terrible and easier to cull from the tank.. or the more sinister red cotton candy algae.
Thanks for the help--I kinda like it, just something different and it seems to be an idicator of good water quality--I will keep an eye on my calcium since I also have LPS corals and will pull it out if it starts to get too invasive--I wish it would spread a little bit and cover a corner of the rock that it's on--
