I setup my apex with cat5 the first time and did the port forwarding and could connect on my phone to the app. What do I have to do to get it to work with this new wireless adapter? I have tried changing a few IP's around but i'm not that tech savy. Can someone please help me out and explain what I need to do to add the new wireless adapter so I can connect to it on my phone?

No need to change any IP addresses. First thing, go back and get your Apex accessible via the Cat5 cable - or make sure it still is. Once you can see it via the hardwire, then follow the instructions that came with the WNCE2001. I'm going from memory here, but I think you disconnect your computer from router, and connect the WNCE2001 directly to the computer via an ethernet cable. With your wireless network on, you step through the setup wizard on the WNCE2001 until you're done. Then disconnect it from your computer, connect your computer back up to the router. Then you plug the WNCE2001 into the ethernet port of the Apex. And you're done. At that point you should see the Apex on your network.

Just follow the instructions that came with the WNCE2001 - it's a really simple setup.

Ok I got the apex hooked back up hardwired, made a new port forward for it and it worked I could view it on my phone app. I then followed the instructions and did the setup wizard in my computer unplugged adapter then plugged it back into apex. It has all 3 green lights on so the connection is established. But my phone sits here and says connection failed? I havn't changed anything in my phone from the hardwire to the new wireless. I have WPS on my router I turned it off. There was a WPS way install the new adapter couldn't get it to work so I turned it off and did the way you instructed ( the non wps install) and now i'm just getting connection failed on my phone :(

WNCE showing up connected to my wireless.

3 192.168.1.6 wnce2001 10:0D:7F:B2:94:C3

I have my apex IP in the app controller.

192.168.1.11 with the correct port.

I got it. For some random reason I checked my Apex IP has changed? It changed to .7 instead of 11 I changed it on phone app instantly connected!! Yes!!!

What does this do?
DHCP is the mechanism which devices use to automatically request an IP address from a server or router... for home users, this is usually the router. DHCO makes home networking pretty much plug 'n play. When you shutdown and later restart (or reboot) a device using DHCP, it can get a different IP than it had before. This is not an issue for your smartphone, computer, BluRay player, etc. But for devices which you need to access by IP address- such as the Apex or a network camera, the IP address getting changed is a nuisance.

Disabling DHCP tells the Apex to always keep and use the same IP address - also called a static IP address.

Got you. Will disable. I have one more question. Is there a way to view my Apex through the internet browser or something when there is no wireless? I find I have no wireless a lot of the time but obviously I can still access the internet through the browser on my phone. Can I type in my IP somewhere to access?

In the router settings you may also need to take appropriate steps to ensure the IP of the apex is not assigned to any other device at some time down the road. Like an IP reserveded list so certain IPs aren't given out, this would ensure the ip or the apex remains its alone if the router reboots.

I assume you mean when you have no wireless connection to the WNCE2001?

If that's the question, then no... if there's no wireless signal to the WNCE, then you aren't going to get in to the Apex - unless you hook back up the ethernet cable.

There's a wireless LED indicator on the WNCE that shows green when it has a signal. When it's red, it doesn't mean you don't have a signal, it just means it's really really weak. If you're finding you truly can't connect, you might try reorienting or repositioning the unit so it has a better line of sight to your wireless router.

No. I mean when I don't have wireless service on my phone because i'm say traveling somewhere with no wifi access on my phone. Can I connect to my IP somehow through safari on my iphone since I can access internet no matter where I am. I always have wifi at my house so its always connected to the net. So it would make sense to me that I could access it somehow when I don't have wifi on my phone? By typing in the IP in the internet browser or something like connecting to the router through the browser by typing in my own IP?

Maybe I'm not reading what you're typing correctly, but...

If you are outside of your house, let's say at a hotel in another state, you are accessing the Apex the same way regardless of if it's through the hotel's wifi, or through your cell phone network's connection to the internet.

If you're using the Apple app for the Apex, you set up two controllers in the app. One uses the internal address for your apex when you're inside your network. That's the 192.168.blahblahblah number. The other uses the *external* address for your apex. That could be one of many things depending on how you're set up. Could be a static IP address your internet provider gave you, could be a dyndns name that you've set up to point to your external IP address. If you're using the Android app (or at least the old version I'm using!), you set up both interal and external addresses on one controller.

Have you accessed your Apex from outside your home network yet?

I'm saying when im outside of my house driving down the highway and theres no wifi within 500 miles. I can still surf the web on my phone using safari on my iphone. If I can still access the internet shouldn't I be able to access my apex even though theres no "wifi" ? Does that make sense? I can access internet webpages no matter where I go using iphone5. But I don't have actual "wifi" that my app on the phone is needing to connect. Is there another way to view my apex without using the actual app to connect to it. Can I connect and view it through my web browser?

The app does not need wifi to see your controller. Guess that's where the confusion is.

Check out the New User's Guide for for info on how to set things up for external access.

Yes exactly I ment accessing it outside my home network I guess is the terminology. I just read the NUG that stuff is way out of my league. I will just stay with being able to access it at my house without having to look at my tank controller works for me. Thanks for the replies kurt.

You can access it even on 3G(or whatever cell connection you're getting), your phone doesn't need to be connected to wifi also. While you're driving down the road just click on the app as you would at home and it will connect to Apex

To do that though, you have to configure your app to use an external ip address - whether it's a static ip, or a dyndns-type domain name that points to your external ip. The original poster hasn't done this.
