Hopefully someone out there will have some advice on this.

I was having trouble getting my AC3 to work through the web, seems I have a ethernet switch, not a router. So I purchased a router, but when I hook this up, I can no longer access the internet. I do have a local(in the house) network but no connection to the outside. Any have the knowledge to work through this? I am at a complete loss with this.

Ok, an update, I have somehow got the router to work, not sre how, but it is working.

Next question is, how do I configure my router to allow outside access? I have had a couple people type in the AC3's IP address and they get a page not found message. This is a Linksys router, I have enabled http port forwarding to the AC3's IP, but no go. I also tried a custom application, making the external port 4567 and the internal port 80, again to the AC's IP, still no go. Anyone have any ideas?

Coralfreak,
You're close...

First of all, I'm betting that your new router set you up with an "internal" ip address somewhere in the 192.168.x.x range. This address is not viewable beyond your router, ie: on the internet.

You want to setup your AC3 to have a similar address to your router's network address. If your router is setup to 192.168.0.1, set up your AC3 to something like 192.168.0.100. Setup port-forwarding to the AC3's new IP address. Use an external port like 12000, and an internal port of 80.

Next, go to www.whatsmyip.org. This will tell you what your EXTERNAL IP is. The External IP is the IP address that your internet provider assigns to your cable/DSL modem. This is the address that you need to use from the internet to access your AC3. So if your external address is 64.55.132.97, then from the internet you would type: http://64.55.132.97:12000 to access your AC3.

That should do it. :)

Tang_man did mine too. I am lucky. He lives nearby. Neptune should give him a commission. He has this down to a science!

Look into giving this guy a discount!!!! He is a great sales rep for you...

Which address do i use from the ipconfig screen? DNS Server?
If I have the ACIII working internally, do I need to do anythign different to make it work external besides forwwarding port 12000 to it?

I am know I am close. :)

Well, I am not sure exactly what point you are at, so I'll go through the whole thing:)

To set up your AC3, you will need to have your ipconfig info from your PC. Open the command prompt screen, type in ipconfig/all. Write down the IP address, netmask, gateway and DNS server(s). You will then need to enter this info into the AC3 from the Net setup screen. Remember though, the IP address for the AC3 needs to be different than the one for your PC, ie mine is 192.168.1.100, so my AC3 is 192.168.1.101. The rest will be the same. Once you have that done, you should be able to access the AC3 from your PC by typing 192.168.1.101(or whatever your IP is) into your browsers address bar.

To access the AC from outside your local network, you need to set up your UPnP port forwarding from your router. As mentioned, set your external port to something like 12000, check protocol TCP and set the internal port to 80. Now, to access the AC3 externally you need to know your IP address, go to http://whatismyip.com/ , write this down. To access your AC3, you type in your IP address, adding the port number to the end, ie 207.199.221.118:12000.

I have the internal conenction working!!!

I can't get the external section to work. I have the D-link DI-704 router and it displays my IP address, but I don't have a spot in my setup to do the Upnp thing.

My options are to enter something in packet filters, virual server or special applications.

I used virutal server to setup port 80 to direct me to the ACIII internally, but I am not sure how to do the external part.

Please advise.

Thanks

DwightKeenan,

If you go in the Virtual Server tab, you can specify an internal and external port for a specific private IP.

So, if your aquacontroller is set to an IP of 192.168.0.100, then you type that as the private IP for this "virtual server".

Private port would be 80, and public port would be something like 12000.

Be sure to ENABLE it with an "ALWAYS" schedule.

Hope that helps.

On my virtual tab, I can only add a service port and a server IP.

I have 80 - set to go to my ACIII - 192.168.0.50

When I put 12000 for the port and set it to the same ip address, it still doesn't work.

Do you know of a way I can confirm that I am using hte correct IP address to access my network from outside?

Did it and that is working fine.

I am wodering if my router doesn't allow outside ports or if it just doesn't have a way to specify outside or inside ports.

But it works for internal access just fine. Doesn't that mean my port 80 isn't an issue?

This router is like 6 years old, so maybe I need to get a new one.

Well, if your internet provider doesn't block port 80 (most do), then you're fine and can use port 80.

If you're able to access your AC3 from the internet by just using your external WAN IP from your browser (the IP provided by www.whatsmyip.org, ie: http://207.199.221.118) then you're fine.

If not, you either have to setup the AC3 to respond to another port other than 80 (don't know if this is possible), or unfortunately, get a new router.
