Has anybody experienced this and what to do?
35 gal, perfect condition saltwater tank, running for 7 yrs. Lots of life rock, filtration/skimmer...
I didn't have much in it lately, wasn't sure that I will continue - only a diamond blenny (for approx. 2-3 yrs), 2 sunburst corals, leafy macro algae, chocolate starfish (10+ mo), hermit crabs etc. I decided to do clown fish only since they seem to be hardy and cute, my last Clarki lived for years before I sold him to a bigger tank a few months ago.
I bought a set of tank raised regular clowns together with a fire and striped shrimp in an aquarium store in Bensenville The clowns never seemed very active but also not sick. A few days later I got a snowflake and a bubble tip anemone from a Petco in Chicago (clown was already hosting while on display) and again a few days later a black clown from a Petco in Berrington. Those last two clowns seemed more active than the first two. Then the clowns started dying in 1-2 week intervals (first the 2 tank bred, then the snowflake went sick, then the black one died).
The snowflake recovered somewhat from laying on the side/upside down for one week to now being able to maneuver around the anemone (mostly head in and upside down) and swimming head on sand/tail up. Some days he will have shiver like movements, others he is kinked like a C. He has an appetite but can't get to the food part of the time. There were initial skin lesions (white) around the head (also on 2 of the other 3 dead fishes), they went away on the snowflake (maybe as a result of my increasing the tank temp to 80 F). The the fish had circular dimples around the head for some time (I somewhat suspected the anemone since the lesion had a similar diameter). Anyway, the snowflake is not really improving for the last 2+ wks but I don't want to just give up on him. The diamond blenny has no clinical signs whatsoever.
Did anybody experience this bug before? Any hope? Anything I can do? And how long to wait to replenish clown or other fish?
Thanks!!!
