New 1.5g office project.

Lights installed, wired and tested. Reflector installed. First coat of poly stain on. Getting close, I can hardly stand the wait!

Here she is everybody!
Tomorrow is water, sand, and rock day. I'm thinking I want straight sand instead of the aragonite sand mix in my DT, so tonight during the weekly waterchange I'm gonna try to pull just some sand out after cleaning a spot on the bed and using half that and half new Carib sea sugar sand from petco I have some left over so it's freeeee!

Freakin' awesome!! I love that tiny tank so much that I might follow suit. The 5.5 gallon I have just looks too big now!

A related pic and an unrelated pic. Here's after a few hours of clearing up after sand and rock it's not to cloudy in the pic but it is still pretty cloudy.

Hey Dex, any chance the heater would fit in the filter or no way?

Also...I know it's too late now, :( , but on my mantis tank, I made the canopy so that it actually covered about 3 or 4" of the top of the tank to hide my heater.

Th heater might fit in there I'll give it a shot. It's full of rubble ATM but I would like it better there than in the background of the tank. Lol it looks massive in this dinky thing. And the tank is only 6"tall so even an inch would be a huge loss of glass. ;)

Tank reached 86 today with only one bulb running I need to get the fan going ASAP. Nirvana gave me a 80mm fan and I've rigged it to a power supply now I just need to cut the hole and put it in. I'm thinking of putting it in the upper half of the canopy and drilling a couple holes in the bottom half on the back so air will be drawn in thru the holes and up thru the lights and out the fan. I know the salty air across the fan isn't ideal but it was so far the best idea I've had to draw warmer air away from the water.
Or should I set it to blow across the water for evap cooling, let the air escape thru some drilled holes?
Mini chillers are 129 lol that's probably not gonna happen.

I would blow it across the water. Maybe your outlet can be above the lights or wherever you think the hottest air is.

Could you use a smaller heater, like a hydor mini heater. Just a thought. I bought one from Petco for my beta tank and it keeps it at a steady 78-80. It doesnt look that bulky in a small tank.

I'll bet that heater didn't even turn on during the day. Those lights probably throw off some heat. What about having an open top? Maybe recess some black egg crate in the hood?

Cmof29, I am going to look into that heater if for nothing else a smaller heater in the tank, I do agree with nirvana however that the heater probably never came on. I looked a few times and never noticed the light on the heater.

Nirvana, I think i would rather just put another fan on the back or just get one large fan for the back, the reflector is partially attached to the ceiling of the hood and to remove the wood top would expose all the ugly inside.:(
I could also put a desk fan blowing at the whole set up.

Yep, temp under control with 80mm fan that comes on with the lights, I top off manually once in the am and once before leaving for the day, 1/2 gallon water changes weekly. I'm looming into a small fish now params are rock solid and its time, I need more cuc for my home display and some here so Friday I'll probably be doing this. There are various shrooms ricordea Yuma and Florida also some discosoma, pulsing xenia, krypto candy cane, some envy orange zooanthids, Kenya tree, and green with green tip torch oh yeah and for fun a small frag of purple rim montipora capricornis. That are also some small brittle stars, for cuc I will probably add some bumble bee snails and a few astrea.

Think I am gonna add a tiny powerhead in one of the corners, the flow from the filter is too directional and when adjusted to a decent flow it is too much in one spot and not enough elswhere.
I also did purchase a yellow clown goby for the tank and couldnt find my air pumps to house him overnight at home so he ended up in my 120 where he seems to feel right at home, eating brine and smaller particles of the home brew that joe and I made.
