I have decided to start my tank log thread for my 58 gallon oceanic. I will mainly be keeping LPS and soft corals, and deepwater fish.

The tanks demensions are 36" x 18" x 20" high. It is reef ready and has a center overflow with two one inch bulkheads.

So far i have the sand in the tank (Carib-Sea Special grade reef sand), and specific gravity at 1.025. My live rock will be coming soon, probably next week. I ordered 45 pounds of fiji premium rock from REEFerMadness.us

So far i have had very good experience with this company. I ordered the rock from them two sundays ago. I was supposed to have the rock on the friday of last week, but Chris at Reefermadness called me and said that the shipment they recieved from fiji was not in excellent condition, and they were not going to ship it out. I am very pleased with this transaction so far.

Below is a picture of the Tank when i first got it. I got this tank from an LFS name Tropiquarium in Eatontown, NJ.

It was still cloudy because i had just put in the sand.

Pictures / Tank Specifications

Lighting

3 VHO tubes driven by an IceCap 430 ballast.

Water Movement-

For Flow i will have a Nanostream 6055 with a Single Controller, and a mag 9.5 for the return pump. I use loc line to divert the flow down to where the fish and corals will be. You can see the loc line returns on each end of the aquarium in the image below.

Filtration-

Filtration Consists Of An AquaC Urchin Skimmer, and a 6.7 Gallon Chaetomorpha Refugium. I will take a picture of the sump once i buy my refugium light.

Fish-

Cap Clownfish
Small Copperband Butterflyfish (Maybe)
A harem of C. Adornatus
Golden Blenny

Inverts-

I will get 60 to 70 snails (ceriths, trocus, turbo), and 50 hermit crabs. I might add a porcelain crab and a few sea stars to the mix as well.

Corals-

As far as corals go i will keeping LPS (you know that all ready) such as Euphylias, acans, chalices, blastos, and brains, and some zoanthids

tang, read up on some of the leathers you will be keeping. unless you have no interest in sps it might be worth while on double checking which ones arent so nasty. the mucus shed by many soft corals are toxic to many other corals especially stonies.

just a head up.

nice start, too bad its going to be a while before those nanostreams are out.

keep those pictures coming!

I have read up on all of the corals i will be keeping. Eventually, i will be running carbon in a phosban reactor. Some sps are more prone to the growth inhibiting effects of the mucus the leathers slough off. I really do not want to keep sps at this time.

I may eventually set up an acrylic propagation tank, and can keep one or the other in that.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hey, tropiquarium is a great store. I have to say the livestock may be a little pricey but I think it is worth it. Their tanks are priced great though! Good luck!

Is the only flow going to be comming from the 2 loclines? I have a similar set up and am womdering if I need additional flow?

scottyh, that is all the flow i will be having for now. Once the nanostreams come out, i will be getting a nano stream 6055 and a single controller. I use a mag 9.5 (950 gph) which is rated for a tank larger than mine, and the loc lines seem to increase the velocity of the water some what. It is enough to blow the sand around a bit at first, but if your tank is the one you have in your singnature, you will want more flow, especially if you want SPS.

Fishmaster, Tropiquarium is great, those two tank right when you walk in are amazing. So many fish...

Update-

The temperature has decreased significantly today. It is usually 83.0 at noon, to day it is 78.3. The reading is the same on both thermometers.

The specific gravity is 1.025, and is measured by a refractometer.

I have not heard from Chris at Reefermadness yet, so i do not know when my rock will come.

Update-

I heard from Chris at Reerer madness, and my rock has arrived, so i can get it shipped any time now. I will probably be getting it this friday or next monday.
