New AC III ?s

Hello all.

Just got a ACIII and so far some good and some bad. Here goes.

I got the DC8 Ph ORP Temp and the unit is working great.

I DL'd the AquaNotes trial version and cannot get it to communicate with the unit via ethernet. Is this possible in the trial? Is it possible in the 'real' version?

The web pages that the server produces are 'limited' to say the least. Is it possible to customize the pages?

Is there a way to data mine or scrape ALL the recorded data via the web server? I would like to be able to download all the data stored on the unit at regular intervals, so I can build custom web pages on my server. (Histograms, config pages, etc)

Any way to use SSL on the server? Seems kind of risky to me to leave the server open on the internet with access to turn stuff (pumps, heater, etc) on and off for anyone who stumble upon the site.

Can telnet or ssh be used to access the console of the unit? I tried and either I don't know the commands to do this or it can't be done. (I am getting a stack dump, some data)

Do you know of anyone who has customized the firmware? Maybe to run a streamline linux of some sort? What if I brick the unit experimenting with this, any warranty recourse? :lol:

Thanks in advance
Don

Ok, for other's who might see this

Got Aquanotes Lite fixed by following the info in the Aquanotes Help file in the program group. I had to keep restarting the program initially as it kept going unresponsive and I had to kill it with task manager.

Did not understand the data display page well enough yet and I think I can use this page for what I want. Any easier way?

Have not found SSL.

Found a number of single keystrokes and what they do in telnet. Along with dir and exit. Is there a comprehesive list of telnet commands anywhere?

Have not found a way to customize the pages or to use a custom firmware.

Thanks for any comments you might have.

How did you fix Aqualite..mine locks up also....?

Patience and persitance ;)

I knew right where I was going in the program

Database->Tank Database->Condition tab
Enter the serial number from the base of the unit.

Database->Tank Database->Config tab

select the TCP button under Interface

Enter IP address, Username, and Password on the same page.

It took several attempts with the program freezing and I had to kill it and restart. But eventually, I was able to go to the Status->Reef Tank and the login took place.

The telnet commands available are documented in the owner's manual. You can download a copy from the support section of our website www.neptunesys.com .
Instructions for setting up AquaNotes to AC3 communication can be found here: http://www.neptunesys.com/aquaNotesFAQ.htm .
No SSL is not possible w/ the AC3. If you are concerned about security, I recommend that you put the AC3 in a VPN.
Custimized firmware is not really something an end user could do; it would require a complete rewrite of the AquaController's software. Not really much of a chance at bricking the unit as the firmware bootloader can't changed/updated without a hardware programmer.

Yikes!! Here I thought I had the manual memorized. :lol: Must be getting old to have missed that.

Yes, got that working yesterday with the help of a couple of other threads.

Okey Doke. Planning on putting the AC3 behind the firewall and gather data to my Apache server.

OK, Thanks for the help.
