Found a mystery wrasse at my lfs for the low price of $50. He is medium size and ate mysis like a pig... Always wanted one but the usual $100 kept me from it.

Half of what I've ever seen them for too! I shouldn't have but I had to.. They posted on Facebook for today only. Just so happened I had some free time after work..

hopefully you arent too attached to your cleaner shrimp. They are great fish except not invert safe and will terrorize other wrasses. Ive always wanted one but not with my flame, rhomboid and flashers

Unfortunately that is true. Both inverts and especially fairy and flasher wrasses.

That was my number one concern.. I did some searching and reading and the general consensus I went with was that as long as the shrimp was established first, then it should be ok. I'm aware that anything goes in this hobby. I knew I was taking a chance with it so we will just have to see how it goes.. I would be bummed for sure though.

nice price you got! that's half of what my LFS sells for...

my christmas wrasse leaves my cleaner shrimps alone. though, the cleaners are around the same size as the wrasse so that may be why there's no aggression yet.

My skunk cleaner was established, would clean my hand and swam all over the tank until I introduced my mystery wrasse. He hid for months and eventually was eaten.

I haven't had an issue with my mystery. I got a similar deal, around four inch mystery wrasse for $45. Eats like a pig and is a fatass. He got along fine with my lubbocks fairy wrasse before it went carpet surfing and now gets along fine with my red headed Solon fairy wrasse. The wrasses are of the same size. My cleaner shrimp aren't bothered, but they're larger sized. I've tried to add peppermints, but they were small and got eaten up.

I have a mystery wrasse as well, he eats like crazy and I heard mention of cleaner shimp which mine ate, he is the size of a small mouth bass after 1yr. Watch it for jumping out of the tank though.

Well so far none of my shrimp have been eaten. Everyone is still settling though. He did however manage o get himself into the overflow chamber last night. I had a clown I used to find in there all the time so the removal process is pretty routine. Except that this sucker is FAST!! I'm concerned about carpet surfing and will be devising something tonight to minimize the chances. If any of you have ideas or suggestions for carpet surfing prevention, please share
