Found this guy for $30 at the LFS.

Clammy.jpg

I believe hes a Crocea thats about 2.5" across so I guess that means phyto feeding for me.

The camera used for the picture is a Canon SD300

I have a question though. Do you think someone got hungry for clams and decided to take a bite off of him? In the picture on the left side there seems to be a unnautual transition from colorful rim to white flesh to colorful rim.

i was jsut wondering about that...... im looking into getting a clam, so i am by no means an expert, but i believe that they rarely recover from tears in the mantel.... am i correct?

yes its a Crocea. from just looking at the pic i cant tell if it torn or just curled up, but it should be fine. some of the good importers/exporters do tissue samples so who knows it could be from that

It's not curled up at that spot unfortunately but he seems happy...although I should do the rock under the sand but I cant find any rocks that are thin enough for my clam. Is there any reason they like the rock under teh sand thing? Security maybe???

in the wild they are found up in the reef. they grab the reef with there byssal threads, and hold there selves down to protect there byssal opening
