New Additions - Borb and Mitratus

Happy to report that these guys both came through the General Cure treatment well. Yesterday marked the third week in Quarantine. Both fish prefer mitratus, but also have started accepting pellets and Rod's reef blend.

I'm beginning their cupramine treatment today and once that's over, I think i'll be turning them loose into my DT. Only 4 more weeks to go.

Correction, both fish prefer mysis, not mitratus.

I know I'm late but...

I have the aquamedic fish trap. The trap works great however the directions are the absolute worst I've ever encountered in a product. Just keep messing with it or search out the directions on youtube. The trap serves double duty as a really nice acclimation box as well....

Great looking fish you have there caribfan!

I have the Aqua Medic and like it although so far I have used it only as an acclimation box. As Peter says, the heavy glass door works well and is a good feature.

Quick update on the Mitratus:

I'm getting a bit paranoid. I am 9 days into my cupramine treatment and yesterday I noticed the Mitratus has stopped taking mysis. Strangely, it now prefers the ON Angel formula, but won't touch the mysis shrimp and isn't eating the way it used to.

I haven't checked the water parameters, but have no reason to believe anything would be out of the ordinary since it's a pretty established system. As I write this, I realize I need to check my parameters just to be sure.

Has anyone experienced a change in appetite with the cupramine treatment i'm between 0.3 and 0.5 ppm based on the seachem test. If he's still not eating well tomorrow, i'm going to do a hefty water change and abort the treatment. It's a preventative treatment anyway, so it's not as though there is a rampant infection.

Don't want to leave the Borb out, he's doing fantastic, eats like a champ. I believe he is a male as he's started to develop a little knob on his dorsal fin.

IME it's usually due to water quality. Don't wait... do the water change. You can always add more cupramine if need be.

Water change done, you have some serious power over me considering the fact that I've never met you and you live across the country. I was in bed falling asleep and read your post and decided you were right. I figured I'd rather stay up 20 minutes later than wake up tomorrow to a struggling or dead fish.

Water checked out ok before the change.

PH: 8.1
Ammonia:0
Nitrate: 5 - 10

I also replaced a grounding probe that I was using on another set up, so I should have all my bases covered.

We'll see how things look in the morning, thanks for the speedy reply!

Pretty much the same feeding response this morning, not interested in mysis, Rods or even the Angel Formula. This may be attributed to the fact that I had just turned their light on, so we'll see how it goes when I get home tonight.

He is very active and appears normal in every way, other than the eating. He even swims up to the food and appears interested and then swims away.

Is this a fish that requires cooler temperatures, I wonder if that could be an issue. I run about 79 - 80.

I'm open to any suggestions right now, this fish is so personable, I really want to get him eating again.

FWIW, the anthias and starkii are both eating fine in this tank, so i'm struggling to believe it is an issue of environment.

Look at it this way, you certainly didn't hurt the situation by doing a water change. Since you say there have been no signs of disease, I would pull the meds (add carbon).

I'm gonna do just that when I get home, unfortunately, I had to travel most of the day.

Did you treat your Mitratus with cupramine and if so, how did it do?

Thanks for your help, btw.

Like clock work, I put carbon in last night, checked the copper levels this morning, and they are signficantly reduced. The Mitratus appetite seems to have started to come back :celeb1:.

What is interesting to me, is that the the suppression in appetite came after a prolonged period of exposure to copper, but not after a change in concentration. The concentration had been the same and monitored every other day for the nine days leading up to the reduction in appetite.

Either way, I'm glad things appear to be on their way back to normal.
