New aquascape in established tank

I have an IM lagoon 50 that's been up and running for maybe 3 years. I really don't like my aquascape. To be honest I don't really like the rock that's in the tank. Shapes, size etc.

Could I build a new scape outside the tank with dry rock. Cycle the new scape in some sort of container. A old tank or plastic bucket of some sort.

Then replace the whole thing all at once? Am I overthinking this? Or is this too risky?

The only thing in the current tank I care about are my two clowns, yellow tang and a few rainbow bubble nems.

I rescaped my tank last week. Just went slowly adding and moving rocks while the tank was still running. Didn't have any issues.

Yes you can do exactly what you described if thats what you think will improve it..

Thanks for the input. Container suggestions? I assume I don't need filtration. Just consistent water changes and monitor the cycle.

Food safe plastic or glass I would assume

Any non-metallic container...
Water movement is required ( a powerhead is perfect)
