New Branches?

After getting my tank back to proper peramiters after gross negligence I treated the tank to a new addition. A branching hammer. I noticed a couple of spots where little 1/2" peices of the outer branch were popping off. Are these new branches forming?

New growth will usually be higher up. I call them "babies" for lack of a more appropriate term:rolleyes:. I get them on one of my Frogspawns and they are right under the head where the stalk is still white.

I had a couple mini-stalks like that growing on my hammer. i don't think anything ever came out of them though.

If you're talking about the little red things, those aren't baby hammers. They are called forams. Forams are small benthic filter feeders that produce a calcium carbonate skeleton like many corals we keep....

NO I am talking about the round part right above what you are talking about and just below the dead head. It was a round bump and then the outside peeled off like a scab coming off. There is actually two places that it happened.

I have observed what you're speaking of on both my frogspawn and my hammer coral, however nothing ever became of them. Usually new heads will split from an existing head, or a new head will sort of bud from the base of an existing head.
