New Build Design Phase

I'm resurrecting this Cuzza. What's the damage?

I also have a quote request from John on a 96" x 32" x 24" with stainless steel rims and a steel stand. John had a good idea for an overflow that I like - internal coast to coast (held to the rear with bulk heads - drain the bulk heads into a rear external overflow box - then beananimal the external to the sump.

Ted, we're basically doing the same thing. I already have the stand. But was very happy with the price from John. The great part about the steel rim is we'll only have two cells. How awesome is that on a 8 foot rimmed tanked? Only one brace to deal with!!! Also, my understanding is that with the steel rim and max 24" height, half inch glass will work fine. I'll be doing the same thing with the overflow internal/external coast to coast ghost overflow. The added cost to notch the glass for a completely external overflow just wasn't worth it. I have a newer illustration I'll post later tonight when I get to my computer.

Hey CuzzA, what material are you going to make the overflow from? Glass?

I looked into making one for my tank, it was only 48" long, but still quite heavy and pricey.
If you're going that full length I think you should cut some triangles for braces.

Also why don't you go with the newer Jebao RW series, they pull/push water in a broader flow than the WP ones, unless its cause you're using your old pumps.

This build is going to be great! I want to do a big tank now as well haha

Tony, the overflow will be made from acrylic. I have access to 1/4" black cell cast 96x48 inch sheets for $100. So, I may consider building it myself. I have the tools to do it. I'll just have to see how much more it would cost to have Johns guy make them. If it's not terribly too much more I'll likely value my time more and go that route. Although, I enjoy hands on work. My day job is meeting with clients and filling out paperwork so I tend to work with my hands and DIY a lot of stuff just to break the monotony. Who's knows if I find I'm any good at it, perhaps I'll start selling custom overflows. ;) There seems to be a real shortage of company's that do this.

As for the WP's, I have two already, but I haven't researched the RW's. Mine are controlled by my Apex so I don't know if that effects the Apex controllability because they're wireless. Chime in if you know the answer to that.

I didn't do a very good job documenting my 90 build, but I can assure you this one is going to be documented well with lots of pictures and a very clean setup where the guts will be, in my opinion, just as pretty as the display. Haha.

I'd like some of that acrylic or you can sell me your custom overflows or better yet we can be business partners! :)

The RW should have the same wiring as the WP, so I'm assuming you can use the same adapter with your apex. The wireless part is just if you want to control multiple RWs' on a single controller for different flow patterns. I'd ask BigZMan he uses 3 RW and thought they were a huge improvement over the WP.
