new buttons

I just got new bottons, and I have a few questions. There is a very small colony and a larger colony (pulled the smaller off the larger, as it was hanging off anyways. There are tons of tiny little tubes that are on the rock, but after an hour or so they have yet to open and show if anything lives in them.
The buttons are doing very well. The guy who gave them to me put them in fairly dry, w/ no water touching them. Is this okay? The main colony is almost all open, while the smaller one is just opening. They look pretty good. Will try to get an ID later, as soon as my camra is working. They are purple w/ a greenish aqua center, really pretty!

do the polyps need to be fed?

They don't NEED to be fed, but some people say that it helps them spread.

what shoud I feed them? Since then I also separated 2 single polyps that and only 1 has opened completly. The main and smaller colony have almost completly opened. Every oe is happy! The tubes however remain empty.
