i am in the process of building a new canopy and was wonder how long after i stain it can i put it on the tank will be using minwax wood finish

you'll want to put some sort of poly or varnish on top of the stain to seal the wood. Also, a lot of people put a white epoxy paint to seal the inside as well. Once you do that, and it's completely dry you should be good to go. There may be some lingering odor but I don't think that'll be a problem.
