New clam question

I purchased a T. Crocea today and have a question about placement. I have a 24" x 24" 60g cube with a 400 watt 14K Hamilton MH bulb. Also the bulb is in a Lumenarc III reflector. My question is how high would you guys place the clam. Right now he is practically on the sand. Also, the clam is about 4-5" in size.

Anywhere in the tank would be good. I have the same lighting as you in a 24" tall tank with ten clams in the sand bed. Nice clam BTW.

Thanks for the replies guys. One more question. How important is it that the Crocea is on a rock and not just setting on the sand?

I have three croceas and none are on a rock and all are very healthy
You just have them setting on or in the sand, or is your tank BB.?

Just sitting in a sand bed that is about 1 inch deep. When they get happy they attatch the foot to the glass.

If you are placing a clam in a DSB it is good practice to bury a tile or small chunk of rock about 1/2" under the substrate for the clam to attach it's byssal threads to.

From what I've read maximas and croceas tend to like to be placed in the rockwork. That's where they are generally found in the wild... but I'm not one to argue with longterm success.

If you want to read up more check out www.wetwebmedia.com. In their tridacnea clam section they have a very informative article by Barry Neigut, founder of clamsdirect.com.
