picked up 3 tahiti maxima clams on e-bay last weekend, unfortunately 2 were DOA. But here is a pic of the one that made it

I am working out details with the seller on replacing the other 2 but he says he is having a hard time shipping these clams and keeping them alive they are about 6" and have a very heavy shell, so I will have to see what happens. He has taken care of me before when UPS took 2 days to get a priority overnight to me and killed a 5" GTD maxima that was amazing.

Ended up with a credit as he could not get a replacement for 4 months that I waited.

this was actually the least impressive of the 3 clams I won, go figure the 2 nicest were the ones that died. The color is not that blue but more purpleish, my camera just makes it look this way, but it looked like it was going to die yesterday and looks much happier today.

these are wild from tuamotu, french polynesia, tahiti, all one in the same. they do not harvest them till they are at least 5" and I have been looking at these for a while online and researching them.

An article I read said the locals eat 100,000 pounds of meat from these clams every year. That has got to be a lot of clams. The on-line vendors are selling in the $200-500 price range each so when I saw them on e-bay I jumped on the chance, but I will have to wait and see how that pans out.

You can research these and find they come in a wide variety of colors and patterns and are stunning but large and expensive.

Did you dip it when it you got it? I know that you have some TR clams are they in the same tank. Wild clams are know to carry a number of bacteria, pathogenic and non-pathogenic, that affect TR tridacnid clams. I made that mistake once and lost all my clams and have not placed one back in my 180.

the day before they came in I moved all the clams out of the 220 and into the 90 just to make room, they also look better in the 90. I usually do fw dip but skipped it this time as all looked sick but were alive barely when I got them. I did not want to stress them when they were already weak and will probably do a dip after the fact in a week or so.

I dont understand why these are being harvested at this size. Size seems to be the major issue with maxima clams in general, either the ORA's which are too small or these which are too big. It is a well known fact that larger clams don't ship well. 3 inches is the perfect size.
