i bought 2 new juvenile clowns and one 4inch bta. i was told the clowns were clarks but i beg to differ, i think they are false percs. am i right?

Another question i have is about my BTA. is it supposed to be all the way at the bottom of the tank like this? or is that just because it didn't need very much light for the time being?

Also, does he look healthy? he hasn't eaten yet so im not sure. ive tried hand feeding frozen cocktail shrimp pieces but he just wont eat. ive had him about 2 days now.

That is DEFINAELY a False Perc!

Also, The anemone is very bleached. It's normal for them not to eat for the first few days to a week. And let it go where it wants to be. It will settle in to a place it likes before long.

thanks, i was worried there was something wrong with it. is the bleached thing ok? cause when i first purchased the bta he was about 1-2 inches across, now hes huge, like 4-6inches easy. i know they can expand and contract with their different light needs is what i read. im just thinking this is normal. is it?

It's bleached, and very hungry. The tentacles are looking sparse, as well as fairly short and stubby.

If you have appropriate lighting, it's color will come back in time, but you should keep trying to feed it every other day. However, depending on how old your tank is, it may be very difficult for this anemone to recover. If it has only been up for a couple of months, and your tank does look very young, it's going to be an uphill battle.

tanks only 3 months old but im working on it

all my parameters are correct, ill keep trying to feed him though

I'm not doubting your efforts or dedication :) I think that with some diligent care this anemone is certainly capable of making a full recovery, however, it's not going to happen by itself. It's gonna take some work and research on your part.

I wish you best of luck, and be sure to keep us posted on how it's doing.

Yeah the anemone doesnt look very good. I got my GBTA like that and with a lot of TLC it recovered and its looking wonderful now. Follow the advice above and it will eventually look like this.

its freakin me out. i really hope its going to be alright. my nitrates are at 10. i just checked them again. ill do a major water change tomorrow night, hopefully that will help. bout 30gallons or so.

hes still got a lil bit of color, hopefully thats good.

ive got a 48inch PC with 4 - 65 Watt bulbs - (2) daylight and (2) 03 true actinic. im looking into some metal halides but their a lil pricey for my budget right now so im working with what i got.

I got one that looks like that.....a save at a super cheap price.

From what I have read the stubby tentacles mean underfed so try and see if it will eat. I am trying to bring mine back right now as well and it didn't help that the clowns have hosted it already so I had to put my bta in a jar in the tank to keep the clowns away.

Mine ate the second day I got it but now refuse food but I think it was because the food was too big for it.

I wouldn't do any more than a 10% water change. Any more than 10 or 20% could shock your tank. I have been through this before but I didn't do it on purpose. We were trying to get the cyano out of our tank by vacuuming it out. We took out too much water but couldn't put the water that we took out back in the tank because the cyano was blended in. So we replaced the water with what we had in our water change bucket. Few hours later our fish started acting funny then died. Our corals were all shrunk up and looking bad. Snails started dropping one by one. We were having our first tank crash. Took every coral out of the tank and put them in another one. The corals are still all alive but our fish died. I don't want you or anyone else to go through this, so be careful when you do your water change.

hes looking better! just got home from work and took some pics. hes smaller but still looking better, got some green color to him too!

im not too sure but the way he looks i think he might be trying to split. the mouth is kinda elongated.
