New crocea burrowing in sand

I just got my first clam and am wondering if this is normal. It's a Crocea that is about 4" long. I put him in the tank yesterday, placing him on the sand bed (sand bed is 2" deep live sand). This morning it looks like he burrowed down into the sand about an inch or so. There is sand mounded up all around him, though the top of him is 2 1/2" above the sand. Is this ok? I read that they should be placed on hard substrate, but I don't have anything other than the live sand. He looks healthy and opens and closes well.

Here's a picture of it. From reading some threads I see that a lot of people put theirs on rock. Should I move him to the rock? I noticed one post that said they will burrow in the sand to attach to the glass. If I decided to move him, how would I get him off the glass if he's attached himself already. I like him on the bottom, but I'm sure I could find a good spot on the LR also. How high would you put him? I have 3 250 watt MH, 2 6 ft 150 watt white VHO's and 2 6 ft 150 watt blue actinic VHO's. The tank is 230 gall, 7ft x 26" deep.

thats normal. could you put a small rock under him to attach too? you just dont want it to attach to the bottom of the tank, only because it can be a pain to move in the future, and after your clam has adjusted to your lighting you may wont to move it up into the rocks

Croceas are boring clams and are only found in nature, bored into coral heads or rock.

Put this clam on the rock work, up high. They are the most light demanding species as well.
