new croceas tomorrow!!!

I'm getting 2 croceas tomorrow from clams direct. They are awesome. I'd like to put them on the sand for better viewing and I think I have enough light to do so, but I'd like some opinions to make sure so I don't have to move them once I get them in my tank. From all the research I've done, I think there is enough light, but I'd like some personal experience to back it up. I have a 250W MH, 15,000K bulb (1 week old) and my tank is 24" deep. Will they get enough light with that color on the bottom or should I put them higher on my LR? TIA

that should be enough lighting, but if you notice that they start to darken up it means they need to be moved up in the water colum, also they do better on a rock surface so if you can try to get them to attach to a rock before moving them to the sandbed, then you can move the rock alond with the clam.

I have a question about clam lighting, too. I have a 400 watt MH on for about 3 hours, and 4 super actinic vho's for 12 hours and 2 actinic vho's for 10 hours. I have quite a few clams, all towards the bottom and only one is losing color. I feed it phyto every other day. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

My new clams are awesome!! Opened all the way up after 5 minutes in the tank. Got squirted good during the transfer. Clams direct did great. Even called later in the day to make sure they arrived alive and were doing well. Barry saud they had new maximas getting added this weekend if anyone is interested.

I'll try to get some pics and post them here in the next couple of days.

Sounds like the MH is not on long enough to give him the light he needs. I run my photoperiod for 8 hours with the MH. Now that I have my croceas I'll gradually increase it for another hour or maybe 2 over the next couple of weeks.

I didn't forget the pics, I haven't had a chance to take any yet. I'm spending the weekend at the lake so it'll be Sunday before I can get them. It figures I pick the coldest weekend since winter to go. It's been 65-85 low and high for the last 3 weeks. Only 32-60 this weekend. Figures.

chips94, How deep are your clams in the tank? How long have they been in your tank. If they have been there a while, 3hrs a day seems short to me for your MH. Oh ya, what kind of clams?

Thanks Grunt. My tank will keep getting better, it's only been 4 months since starting over after I moved. The rock is the same though (going on 3 years), so the water quality is still stable. I just need to get more corals and maybe more clams in there.

My tank is 24 inches deep, I have had them for about a month. I plan on increasing the time of the MH, but I need to get a chiller or fans first because when I had it on longer it was too hot. Thanks for the help!

"My tank will keep getting better" You'll have to keep us posted. There's only the one clown in there, or are they fish in there I haven't spotted?

Just 1 clown right now. That ****** nem or something ate my blennie and my other clown just disappeared. Both were swimming and eating great and were gone over night. There may be a mantis, but I haven't heard any clicking and only put 3 pieces of new LR in after the move. My params are perfect, amm, trite, trate, PO4 are 0. Ca is 440, alk is 10 dkh, and PH is 8.0. So I think something ate them. All the corals and clams are growing well.

I guess that's the long answer to a short question. Sorry. I'll keep you posted on progress.
