Hey All!
I just relocated from Chicago last week (I think I brought the weather with me...sorry about that...), and I'm planning to reestablish my reef tank.

Where are the best LFS in the Dallas area as far as selection and prices? I live in the Uptown Dallas...right in the heart of the city.

Thanks!

You're pretty close to Fish Gallery around Greenville and Park or so. Take a look at the club's listing of LFS: http://www.dfwmas.org/local_stores/ for some others.

I personally like Fish Gallery, Dallas North Aquarium, True Perc. (not so close to you), and Frank's Tanks (again, not close).

While you're there, check the club out http://www.dfwmas.org/ . It's extremely worth the investment.

Welcome ; )

Welcome reefstalker. We don't get around to checking out the threads here too often, but tell me a little about what your tank was, how long you've been in the hobby etc.

I've been in the freshwater hobby from as far back as I can remember. My dad had a koi pond and 200 gal freshwater tank with arowanas and stingrays as I was growing up. I got into the salwater hobby 5 years ago when I got bored one winter and converted a spare 10 gal into a reef. I've since "upgraded" to a 20-long, with an Aquactinics TX5 fixture, an AquaC Remora skimmer, and an AquaFuge HOB refugium.

Great! Its only a matter of time until you upgrade from your nano. Remember everything is bigger in Texas

Haha...naaah. Too expensive and too time consuming to maintain anything bigger. My tiny slice of the ocean is plenty enough for me. In my prior setup in Chicago, I had a BTA/clown pair, a tiger pistol shrimp/yellow watchman/randall's goby trio, a 6-line wrasse, royal gramma, cleaner shrimp, and a few chromises. It was packed with various LPS and shrooms. It seemed like a high bioload but was a very stable setup for over 3 years with no die-offs. The AquaC Remora and Aquafuge/chaeto did a superb job keeping the water pristine.

I also housed a solitary 6" clown mantis shrimp in my original 10-gal tank. That one was like a dog. It was happy to see me and would jump all over the tank whenever I walked by. It was awesome to watch it toy with fishes and crabs before killing them.

I had to sell all my livestock for a fire sale price. Sniff...
