SEASL Trip to Inland Aquatics
March 24, 2007
Here at the details of our long-planned, annual trip to Inland Aquatics. We are very pleased to announce that Morgan Lidster, Inland's owner, has agreed to give SEASL a special presentation on algal turf scrubbers as well as post-traumatic shipping disorder, a condition that may be affecting many of the fish arriving in the midwest.
If you've never met Morgan or caught one of his articles, this is your chance to meet and learn from one of the most respected people in the biz.
This is always a highly attended and successful trip. I know many of us have been eagerly awaiting this event. It is a very easy drive right to the Indiana border, but it will take some time. It will that about take 4 hrs from 270 and 40. For those of you who have not been to Inland Aquatics, here is a link to their web site. http://www.inlandaquatics.com/profile/about_us.html
As most of you know, this place specializes in captive raised corals and fish. If any of you want first-hand advice on raising green water or rotifers, this is the place.
Here’s the plan:
Meeting Location
We will leave from the Cracker Barrel restaurant in Troy, IL. Since it is right along I-70 in the metro east area, it should be easy to find and on the way for everyone. If you are not familiar with this location, use map quest for directions. The address is 2001 Formosa Rd Troy, IL 62294-1384. Also, we should be able to leave cars there, and people could get coffee/breakfast before we leave. A link to a map of that location is attached below.
Schedule
Because of the travel time involved (probably a solid 3 hrs from the Cracker Barrel) we will leave Cracker Barrel at 9 AM so that we are in Terre Haute about noon. We will take 45 min for lunch and be ready for a tour about 12:45 PM. After the presentation and tour, there will be plenty to revisit at this facility. Also, it will take some time for them to bag our purchases. Based on my visits to Inland, I think it would be easy for us to spend a total of 3 hours there. That means we’d leave about 3:45 PM and get back to Cracker Barrel about 6:45 PM. (All times are CST)
Car Pooling
I have the following suggestion for those people interested in car pooling.
1. Contact other SEASL members to arrange your own car pool.
2. We will start a car-pooling thread on Reef Central. Make a post to indicate whether you are a driver (and how many riders you can accommodate) or a rider. Then, as you see an opportunity to hook up with someone, email that person to make your car-pooling arrangements. Keep in mind, if some car pools are going to meet in St. Louis, plan to leave St. Louis at 8 AM so you can meet the group at Cracker Barrel by 9 AM.
3. Show up at Cracker Barrel prepared to drive or ride. However, be prepared to drive in case all the prearranged car pools are full.
Also, it would be thoughtful if the riders covered most of their driver's gas cost.
If you are planning to go, please email Jim Craig jimforInland@charter.net by March 20th. In your email, please include your cell phone number, if you have one. (He’ll keep your cell number confidential. However, we may need it to talk between the cars during our trip.) We need attendance information for two reasons. 1) We want to reduce the possibility of leaving someone behind in Troy. 2) Inland needs a head count so they know how to staff for our visit.
Let us know if you have any questions. We hope to see you March 24th, 9AM at the Cracker Barrel in Troy, IL
