Puffer in my 125 reef. LPs, leathers, anemones , a few sticks. Fingers crossed:smokin:

He is welcome to my sps they are such a main these are the only survivors. I care about my leathers and my hammer torch frog. I Left the sps so he could have a snack. If I had an sps reef I would not have tried this I know they like to chewhard corals to wear their teeth down

I love puffers. You will have to keep us updated. I once had a little green figure 8 puffer that I acclimated to saltwater and let swim around my softie tank. Like an idiot I got rid of him out of paranoia, but in the year or so he was in there he never touched a thing, and was a highlight of the tank. I am thinking about trying one again.

That 125 is too small for a full grown dog face. I had a 3in dog face in my 120 mixed reef and it just got to big.

I was told it would be fine one of the smaller puffer maxes out at 12 inches. By the time that happens I will have a bigger reef.

Wow nice looking tank!! Butt ugly fish!!! What is the attraction of these awful fishes??

obviously peoples opinions differ. honestly it isnt the hottest fish in the sea (in my mind) but it is an odd ball fish and i find that attractive! the babys do look really cute. it reminds me of humans, they start out cute and they only remain cute in the eyes of the beholder.... :inlove:

amazing tank lisa, so im assuming you have the 72x18x21 125g if im correct? i think itd be cool to have a puffer, maybe i should get a toby for my 75 as the next best thing to a puffer.

At least hes happy, usually Dogface are shy at first and need places for them to hide till they get used to the enviorment. Also hell be fine in your tank untill he gets bigger, everyone always says that a fish is too big for your tank. But it will grow to be bigger yes we all know that. But I want to see how he does in your tank as I'm looking at a Solomon Island Black Dogface puffer. I really like him but I want a LPS SPS tank. But well see how that goes.

He is cute in the way my angler is cute. He has very expressive eyes. I think people like them so much because they are very interactive with their owner especially when they big. My other fish are not like that .when I stare at my angler he tuns and looks right at me and stares back :).Odds are when he gets large I would not keep him in my tank I would donate him to someone else with a larger system. I am setting up a 40 gallon breeder now for the corals he cannot resist. yes I have a 6 foot but am always thinking of going larger just need the motivation and the $$ to do it.

lisafoster you have a pair of big brass ones throwing that puffer in your beautiful tank...good luck with it. I never put one of my puffers in my reef(so I can't tell you what corals he's going to eat), but i can tell you that my 8" puffer would kill any kind of clean up crew that I ever put in the tank. Also don't put algae clips in there, will attack and break them and I once had porcupine puffet get clip stuck in its mouth and had to rescue him. And this fish will get large enough that there won't be time to save a coral he likes, huge appetite.

Good Luck!!

I would not reccomend a puffer with sps he went straight for a colony I have he was like a dog with a new toy but I am ok with that I am lps/ leather fan. Also he made a b line for my brains that is why I am setting up another tank for some corals.
