New Eheim 1250 has a broken shaft

I ordered an Eheim 1250 from PA on July 9th. I finally got around to putting it in my tank late last week. Since I stuck it in there, I noticed it had a hard time starting, and was a little noisy. This morning after it failed to start when I had to switch it off for a few minutes I took the cover off and part of the impeller shaft was stuck to the cover, and then two more pieces slid out when I removed the impeller, so the thing is snapped in three. I have no idea how this could have happened because I just stuck the pump in there last week and turned it on. Is there a way to get a replacement shaft for the 1250?

Well I called PA customer service and was told that just shafts aren't available from PA, and to go to Eheim's site for a replacement. After poking around Eheim's site I found they want $17 for just the shaft alone, and $42 for the impeller! Ouch!! So I found another store online I could get a shaft for $9, so I ordered that.

Hi,

Sorry we didn't have the shaft for you. We stock the impellers, but not the shafts, just because we probably only get 1 or 2 request a year for them. So even if we stocked a couple, the odds are we would misplace them in our warehouse before we got an order for one.
