New fish QT advice!

I have a qt tank setup for a few weeks. I currently have it in hypo .09 with a foxface in it doing well after a bout with ich. If I order some new fish, is it ok for me to put them in the QT in hypo for a few weeks?

I have been getting conflicting info. some say qt hypo for everything for 4 weeks. some say leave qt at normal params and put fish in qt. if they show signs then put tank in hypo.

will it hurt new fish if tank is already in hyp and i leave them in there for several weeks?

thanks

I use hypo as a std procedure when QTing fish ... but appreciate the arguement saying "don't treat" unless you know a fish needs it. I have never had a problem with a fish in a hypo tank and know that a number of public aquariums are using hypo as part of their QT procedures as well.

I have never just dropped a fish into a hypo tank ... after each QT I break the tank down .. clean/sterilize .. and set right back up for the next fish. I take a couple of days to lower the salinity and about 4 to raise the salinity.

I keep extra filter media in my sump and use this media in my just cleaned QT so I always have "instant cycled" QT.

Hope this helps.

I have never dropped a fish directly into a tank that already had 1.009 SG ... as indicated I take a couple of days to lower it. I know individuals who lower salinity alot more rapidly than I do but don't know anyone who just drops them into a Hypo tank .. I have no doubt its possible but I don't see a logical reason to do so.

If you want to reuse your QT without cleaning etc you might consider raising the salinity (no big deal in a small QT) before you introduce your new fish. Just a thought.
