New Fish

I am fairly new to the aquarium hobby. I have a 90 gallon tank with corals and fish that I have had set up for approx. 7 months.

I recently lost a Regal Tang and am thinking of replacing it. I currently have a Cinnamon Clown, Sailfin Tang, Bi-Color Blennie, Mandarin Tang, and a Prawn Gobie. I want a colorful fish that will stay out in front of the tank and is an easy keeper. I am thinking about getting a Coral Beauty. Any other suggestions or advice?

Here are a couple of photos of my tank.

A coral beauty will stay out in front and is fairly easy to keep. But they have a 50/50 chance of becoming coral nippers. It's just a risk us angel keepers have to make with corals. I would have a backup just in case it needs to be taken out. Maybe see if the LFS would buy it back if it nipped....

Hi Shawn, welcome to COMAS. nice tank.

My thoughts on CB. They can be good..or bad.........and even good ones will one day decide to eat a coral for no reason. I have had many but the last one decided to eat an SPS one day. She was promptly removed and passed onto another reefer with no SPS.

---its kind of luck of the draw.

I'd go with a reef safe Wrasse myself, always liked them. 6 line is what I have now, colorful fish, if a tad small, and reef safe. Other then that the Christmas Wrasse is also a good one.

a yellow tang or a purple tang would be a good choice -colorful and active swimmers, but happy in a 90gal. Though, they are territorial, so it should be among the last fish you add if possible and there could be aggression between it and your Sailfin.

A coral beauty is a nice fish, though I've had bad luck keeping them too.

I'll second the wrasse. A sixline or a yellow would also be a nice addition.

Thanks for posting and welcome to RC and COMAS.

Isn't a Wrasse a bad idea, since I have a Mandarin? I've read where the Wrasse competes with the Mandarin for food, and I don't want to lose my Mandarin.
