New GSP not opening? Is it common?

Bought a small frag of green star polyps attached to a small peice of rock rubble yesterday. It has not opened yet....is that common for GSP to not open to new surroundings?

Very common. Try to find a final place for it and don't move it around. It will come out.

How long will they stay in sometimes?

I have seen established gsp close up for a week or so at a time. Dont worry it WILL come out, its pretty hardy to say the least.

Yep, mine stayed closed up probably 4 days or more. Now it grows like crazy. So much that I've been experimenting with the pieces I prune off, trying low lighing, poor water, etc, in a separate small tank.

VERY hardy coral indeed.

I have the same experience, mine can stay closed for a week and then come GSP did also stay closed a few days. It is a very hard coral and will spread eventually through your reef.

Does it prefer low, medium or high flow?

Low flow is ok but mine prefers medium.

I don't think it would come out if the flow was too high.

What happens when it meets SPS? Will it cover it, go around it?

My GSP gets hit indirectly from a MJ1200 and does great. They are a tough coral. I swear if I didn't keep it on alittle rock island in the sand my tank would be over run with the stuff. As far as lighting goes it can handle just about anything Xenia can I don't think it would do well in super high lighting i.e., right under a 400w MH bulb. My colored up after I switched from PC to T5. I don't know what would happen around SPS

I think the GSP would win a battle with most SPS.

I have some that covered some Palyotha polyps. The GSP grew around all of them, leaving just the top of the polyps open. Pretty cool looking, actually, like Palys in green fur coats.

So if I put GSP on a LR in the corner it will stay in that area if it is not touching anything else? Will it climb glass?
