HEY ALL,
The new owner of The Jungle told me about you guys. I have been on nanotank up untill now and I hope to join. I will be for sure going to the meeting at The Jungle but the website said there may be another meeting before then, is there? I have a 10 gal nano that is fowlr right now but will be converted to a coral tank after I get my 55gal project finished (hopefully after christmas depending on what santa brings)

Welcome SuperTech, glad to see you here. There are several nano tank owners here. The next meeting is at Fins store in Franklin on Sunday the 10th of Oct, most likely around 5 or 6 pm. there should be a thread about this in the next few days.

You can also join at the meeting or online, up to you and then you can get 10% off at some the local fish store, one of them being the Jungle. Stay tuned in to the threads here as there is often tanks being offered for sale as well as other equipment and live stock.

Looking forward to meeting you and hope to see you at the meeting in Franklin on the 10th.

Norman

great, I have not been to that store so i will be looking forward to it! I will have my 7 month old daughter in tow because my wife works on the weekends, is this ok or do i need a babysitter?

Welcome and look forward to meeting you.

Children are certainly welcome... ensures our future membership :)

thanks for the welcome guys, i am so pumped i just had to brag a little (my wife doesent understand this value), i am in the process of setting up a 55 gal and was planning a sump, i just drove by a garage sale and saw a bunch of bioballs for sale, i stopped and got out. Long story short i just got a wet/dry trickle filter with overflow, Ca test kit, powerhead, return pump (780gph), full of bioballs, drain and return hoses with deflector for................$50 bucks. I now believe in the fish gods! and they are shining down on me today! now just have to find a light and this puppy is goingUP!:D

FWIW you might want to keep the bioballs out of the filter and just use it as a sump. They will just cause you headaches down the road and they aren't needed with live rock.

yeah, I was unsure if I was gonna keep then or not. I know to use them you have to clean them regularly. I had planned on adding a baffell that was about 1/2 way up the filter and putting in a 4 inch sand bed and growing some macro in the bottom. I know that everyone warns against bio balls due to the rapid conversion of nitrates, but I was planning on the big tank being fowlr because of how much 48" lights for corals are. I was planning on converting my nano to corals only with a good light. fowlr tanks can use bioballs effectivley cant they?

Yes FOWLR tanks can use them effectively but if you have live rock you likely still don't need them. If not using them might be a good idea.

I plan on aquascaping with rock but will not be able to afford the 1.7lbs/gal of live rock that I have in my nano. I have made about 50 lbs of diy live rock. I want to add some lace rock also and top it off with a few pounds of live rock to introduce the coraline spores and some critters. What do you think about using them while my "fake rock" starts to "come alive" and then removing the bio balls after I get some growth? I have no experence with big tanks before so I am gonna need some suggestions.
