i just got 3 red legged hermit crabs and they seemed to move around a lot in the first hour or so but then they just went to one place and stayed there. they seem to be alive but are they okay?
i aclimated them like my lfs guy told me in a bag with periodic water changes with water from tank every 15 min for 45min

I would do the drip.. I find it works best. Just do the bad thing then empty all the water into a bucket , with the livestock . Then using a piece of air hosing , I use my gravel cleaner as it has a valve on the end. If it does not just tie it in knots until it drips about 2-3 drips per sec. Then when the water has gone up 50% take it out and dump. Then wait for it to got back up and you are good to add the livestock..
My crabs sometimes stay in one spot for a couple hours. Not moving then they just get up and move. As long as your parameters are good and they are alive then I would not worry to much. New craps and shrimp I found molt alot the first month or two in a new tank...

Hi hessfish ;)

Can be normal. HOW long do they not move? Especially when one settles hermit crabs from a bag in a tank or something like that it is from my experience not uncommon they look a little around and then do not move for a while. May be some hours, may be two days. If You can see the antennae moving that is a good sign they are still alive – if they may be ill we cannot see until it is too late. Even if you could see it more early one couldn't help, sadly.

welllll i got them yesterday around 530 they crawled around tank went on top of rock and stayed put. i got up in morning two had moved (all generally in same place). They retract quickly when i move anything near them, but then come out.

My hermits seem to move around when ever they please. Sometimes in the day they chill in one spot then move around at night other times its the other way. Dont move things around them or touch them when they are still . They could be molting and that would stress them out. Just leave them be. They are again only hermits.
