Interesting..... anyone been to one of these?

I'd have to say I'm not too optimistic as I've never been much of a petland fan..........

From the map of it, it looks to be right where the existing petland is? Are they adding on or just putting fish in the current location?

Photos look nice, I guess we'll see!

Petland is a few notched above petco, they have healthy fish but very few corals. The prices are horrible though. I don't know whatthe new place is going to be like.

Just for fun, I posted an inquiry in the Cleveland Reef society forum. This chain has 3 stores in Ohio, so thought they would be familiar with the chain. Will let you know what I find out.

Interesting stat from their home page:

One third (32%) of current fish owners purchased their last aquarium from a local mom and pop pet shop, 22% at Wal*Mart, and 16% at a pet superstore (Petsmart or Petco).

Wal-mart beats all pet superstores combined

Hi! My experience is typically very high prices. Although fish quality usually pretty good, other stores here have equally good quality and lower prices. I got my marine start there, and advice (now looking back with experience) was shaky and uneven at best. They have a good freshwater selection not found in my local marine only stores. If you have a local favorite already, you will probably continue to shop there. I don't even bother to stop in the local AA anymore, even if I am in the area.

Hey there from a past NW suburbanite (Rolling Meadows),

I have been to the Aquarium Adventure in Columbus, OH many times ( I have family there). Seems like a pretty decent place, lots of selection on tanks/fish, but pretty overpriced on livestock.

Like anywhere else, the type of service depends on the actual employee you are dealing with.

They had a fish club that if you buy a membership, you get discounts and such.

I work about a mile north of there on Roselle, so high prices or not, I bet I'll be there a lot! Beyond the Reef might start to miss me.

I was about to say, they are opening it right across the street from beyond belief. I wonder if they will still be able to sell yellow tangs for $60 and mushroom rocks for $70.

Hey Vetter, I think in order to "sell" something, there needs to be someone to buy it. I see the same corals sitting in those tanks for months. It's like a museum...

I rarely go in there anymore, even if there is something nice I can get it elsewhere for 1/4 of the price. I'm ok with paying alittle more but some of these store I really don't know where they get their prices. I don't care how much more rent they are paying, thats the price you have to pay for a primo location, but don't jack up the prices to a ridiculious level. If I see a 6 headed frogspawn for $40 what would I pay $39 for a 1 head frag. It's stupid.
