Hello All,
Currently I have a 150 G tank with two ocellaris clown fish and a powder brown tang and 4 hermit crabs. I have been having difficulty with receiving correct advice from my LFS.
Previously, I had a 55G saltwater tank so I am aware of the basic care and needs for saltwater fish.
My tank is fairly new. The water parameters are stable. This past weekend my fiance and I went to the LFS and purchased a clown tang and powder brown tang to add to my pair of clownfish. The problem is, after doing some research, I realized the clown tang is not suitable for my tank. I am quite frustrated with the flawed advice I have been receiving. Initially, the LFS said I could have 2 pairs of clownfish, so we bought 4 clownfish and within a week we realized the one "pair" was bullying the other. Unfortunately, one of the "weaker pair" was bullied to death. I brought his mate back to the LFS and was unhappy they said it would be okay to have 2 pairs. I was given 50% store credit for the fish I returned, but lost the money from the one that was bullied to death.
While I understand each individual fish has varying temperaments, in my opinion, the LFS should have never sold 2 pairs to me.
Now, I have these two tangs, one of which I didn't know was venomous, and the other that seems to be getting along with my clown fish (despite the female clown deciding to nip at the tang's tail).
I will be returning the clown tang as my tank is not nearly big enough for a fish that will be just over 1 foot long and very aggressive. (I was told also by my LFS that they were not aggressive). So, my question is, what are suitable tank mates for my clownfish, powder brown tang and 4 hermit crabs. Once the tank is far more established I plan on putting an anemone and corals in it. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
