New - Need lighting info/resources

I have a relatively new (to me) FOWLR that is partially set up.

Live stock and some LR in tank, filter running, etc...

Adding more LR within a week or 2 once it is cycled.

I am interested in what kind of lighting to get, as I want something that will eventually also serve for a reef. I am leaning towards LEDs but, need to educate myself more.

Suggestions? Links?

Thanks everyone!

If it were my reef, I would use some simple power compact, T8, T5, or inexpensive LEDs right now while the tank is a FOWLR, and research light choices in the meantime. Normally, lighting that is sufficient for a reef will be too much light (and will waste electricity and may fuel algae growth) for a FOWLR.

Not to mention, different corals require different amounts of lighting. SPS will generally require much more light than a tank full of acans.

EDIT: In order to make a helpful recommendation, we will need to know more about your setup. What are the tank's dimensions, type of corals you want to keep, what's your budget, etc.

All types of lighting will work, and each will have positive and negative attributes. No light is perfect for everyone. I've used PC, T5, MH, and LEDs, and I've been happy with all of them. Each light had some sort of negative associated as well.

Good luck and research a ton and ask questions.
