Tough decision but we did it. We rehomed our huge queen trigger 'calypso' after a q time she will be at the Nola aquarium. The whole family is upset but with 10 tanks running it had to be done. Amazing trigger and will definitely go this route in the future again when I have space for a monster tank.

Pics please. We love seeing awesome fish getting taken care of the right way. Glad to hear it. When you say "monster"...you mean how big? lol just curious. Everyone has their own definition of big.

This thread is the opposite of another thread I was just in where the guy wants to put 20 big fish in a small tank. WELL DONE!

Thanks for the words of support still sucks every time I look at the tank.. I'll download the camera today and get pics up I owe a few people some of different critters

Glad you was able to find a home for him , I had a huge zebra moray eel 10 years ago that I wanted to donate to them but they told me they did not accept donations from hobbyist, worked out in the long run ended up at my local gulfarium.

Today I had really sad news and this is the first time I ever felt like leaving the hobby. The queen trigger did not acclimate well and died. I don't even know what to say this was our family 'dog'. We had her for two years including a cross state move and it was a really tough decision to let her go. As a family we run a lot of tanks and now I have so many regrets even though I know this was a good decision for her.

I'm sorry to hear that. Death is most certainly one of the toughest things about life. But don't let that stop you from enjoying another awesome fish that deserves your attention.

How many times have you heard someone who just lost their long time dog companion "That's it I'll never have another dog." Then of course someone buys them a puppy for christmas or something and they end up having ANOTHER best dog ever and go through it all again in 13 years later...

I have lost many beloved fish over the years, most recently a dogface puffer named Sluggo that single-handedly changed my wife into a fish-lover. He moved with us from Iowa to Seattle in the back of a 25ft box-truck in a brute garbage can with a heater through a huge blizzard in Montana. We had a Ph spike(calcium additive issues with the kids) and it was too much for him to handle.

Again, I'm very sorry for your loss but don't let that keep you and your kids from discovering another awesome fish that is totally different but just as neat in it's own way. We've had our new dogface for about two months now and the kids already love him and he's growing on the wife slowly but surely. How can you not love little "Peanut"?

Thank you it helps knowing others on here get it. I'm sorry about your puffer our puffy is another long time resident that we are all nuts about. I know I won't be able to give this up easily but today I got why some people may want too. With 10 tanks we have had deaths this one just got us all in the gut. I can't even tell my oldest as he has special needs and giving calypso to the aquarium was hard enough for him so yes got to suck it up and man it does suck! All in the business of having pets. Thanks again for the reply.

damn, sorry to hear, easy to lose some tears when you lose any pet that has touched you...I know I have, especially over triggers- who like you say, are the equivilent of a pet "dog"....
the beauty of your action is not lost in the sad outcome....

R.I.P Calypso

:( RIP Calypso

I hear ya. I had a Humu trigger for a bit over 5 years that I got when he was very tiny. He started getting to big for my tank (you know, the one I was sure to upgrade by the time he got bigger) but was working too much and almost had to move to Europe so I couldn't and decided to give him a better home elsewhere and tear my tank down. Unfortunately, much like Calypso, he didn't acclimate well and passed shortly after. Now here I am a few years later, finally setting up a bigger FOWLR tank that will defintely have a trigger or two. :) Hang in there bud.

thanks miss this fish! will never go that route again, will just go with another tank to the list if ever in this position again. she was in a 125 by herself and tank no i would rather not say lol, and could have stayed there for a few more months before going to a bigger tank, we thought we were doing whats best for the fish...... next time will just squeeze another 210
