My new pair (only fish in a 120) seemed to have decided to adopted the upper corner of the tank as their "enclave". They seldom venture beyond that bastion.

Is this a normal behavior? There are plently of "caves" and the like in the rock.

thats fairly normal that is untill they get used to the tank

My onyx's slept at the top of they're aquarium until they found an anemone. the little male still does on occasion. Nothing you need to worry about.

Tank raised? Normal behavior, especially for percs, which are considered "Top-tank swimmers" in comparison to ocellaris, which are "mid tank swimmers". This does not mean that is the only place, just a broad generalization.
